Day 2: At Sea

Jess and Tatiana were able to enjoy more of the Island before they went aboard. They both enjoyed a swim in the warm waters of Puerto Rico and ate the delicious food on the Island. After soaking up the sun, Jess, Tatiana and Giovanni had to unpack Surface Velocity Program (SVP) drifters and work on the biodegradable drifters. How cool is that! We are not adding more pollution to the ocean, but rather collecting valuable information of it.

And now Ahoy aboard the Nancy! Today is the day that we finally sail off into the ocean. It has been decided which schedules the researchers will take on. Each schedule they will be collecting samples from bongo nets, CTD’s and C10 nets. Collecting samples is the hardest part for Tatiana. You have to be very careful to collect all the sample out of nets. In the picture above taken by Jessica, where she was excited to share what they were able to retrieve from the bongo nets: planktons.
